Employer Profiles
Tour Operators (and employers of tour guides) can promote their business here...direct to tour guides! The times are changing and tour guides want to know more about the business they are going to work for - about the job, vehicles (where appropriate), the location, your business ethics and its contribution to social and environmental sustainability. You can send us your Employer Profile as well!
Australian Age of Dinosaur Museum Winton, Queensland

Overview of the business?
The Australian Age of Dinosaurs is a not for profit organisation with the mission: “To encourage, promote and facilitate the discovery, preservation and display of fossil material from the age of dinosaurs within Australia.” We run the museum and laboratory facilities as well as offering volunteer experiences with our Prep-a-Dino and Dig-a-Dino programs. In April 2012 we opened Stage 2 or our three stage vision.
Where are you located? 24km east south east of Winton, Queensland.
How many guides do you have on staff? Six guides with a total of eleven staff during the main season.
What are your main touring months? We are open all year round but the high tourism season is between April/May and October.
What type of touring do you do? Being a Museum we are a site. Tours are of our two facilities - the collection room (a climate controlled dinosaur bone display) and the laboratory (where we and a team of technicians prepare the fossilised bone on site). Tours run on the hour, every hour between 9am and 4pm and are 30 minutes long at each facility. The tour content is information rich with the main interpretation being of Australian dinosaurs - animals, bones and bone preparation - with an earth sciences slant.

Why do you think guides want to work for your business?
- Most of our guides have a personal interest in dinosaurs and love working with real Australian dinosaurs.
- Guides will extend their knowledge of dinosaurs with on site training and regular visits from palaeontologists and other visiting specialists.
- We provide all tour interpretation training on site.
- The work is varied with rotation between the two facilities and additional biodiversity projects of the local jump up area.
- Guides have the opportunity to learn the preparation techniques of real dinosaur bones and may have the opportunity to attend part of the annual two week Dinosaur Dig within the region.
- We have the world's largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils and we're building the country's most innovative natural history museum to house them. The best part is that you can get involved and together we can bring history to life!
